Experts at Wine Storage Bellevue Offer Tips on How to Keep Wine in Peak Condition

BELLEVUE, Wash.—(October 18, 2010) – Don’t keep worries about how to store wine “bottled up”; ensure valuable vintages age properly with the help of your friendly neighborhood wine storage experts.

According to the Mr. Rogers of Wine, there are four guidelines to keeping safe that bottle of 1947 Château Cheval Blanc (once you’ve found it):

1) Proper Humidity. Wine should be stored in the 60 percent range, and stay that way. If it’s too dry, the cork can disintegrate, and the wine can oxidize. If it’s too damp, mildew can form and ruin the wine.

2) Consistent Temperature. The temperature should be between 55 degrees and 59 degrees Fahrenheit. Keeping this consistent allows the wine to best mature. If a bottle is stored at a higher temperature, it will experience an increased rate of aging.

3) Dark Space. Store bottles in a dark area. Ultraviolet light damages wine and can breakdown flavors, leaving a less-desirable aroma and taste.

4) Horizontal Storage. When bottles are stored horizontally, wine covers the cork and prevents it from becoming dry. A dry cork allows air to enter the bottle and oxidize the wine.

Eastside Family Expands Stor-House Self Storage to Bellevue, Adds New Revenue Stream with Wine Storage

BELLEVUE, Wash.—(May 20, 2010)—Every investment should be kept in a safe place, and this June the Gilroy family will open Wine Storage Bellevue with 422 secure lockers for preserving valued wine collections.

Wine Storage Bellevue will occupy 8,000 square feet at the new $7.5 million, 120,000-square-foot Stor-House Self Storage located at 1614 118^th Ave SE in Bellevue, WA, which is also opening in June. Wine Storage Bellevue can accommodate up to 19,000 cases of wine in individual, all-steel storage lockers that range in size from 10 to 200 cases. Locker pricing will be competitive, starting at $18 per month and going to $295 per month for the largest size.

This will be the third storage facility owned and operated by father and son entrepreneurs Dick and Patrick Gilroy, along with a third family partner, Dick’s wife, Loraine Gilroy. They expect Wine Storage Bellevue to be an additional revenue stream for their storage business that will add significantly to the projected gross revenue stream.

“In the year 2000, after 30-plus years in the residential and commercial development business, we decided to pursue a new business opportunity as a family: Self storage. Now that we are opening our third storage facility in Bellevue, we wanted to do something really unique that would be well-suited for the Eastside market, “comments Dick Gilroy co-owner of Northward Construction and managing partner in Stor-House and Wine Storage Bellevue.

“We have a growing interest in wine and wanted to create something that would combine our design talents with our current business ventures, “said Loraine Gilroy, owner of the prestigious Eastside firm, LG Interiors, Inc., which partnered with Moore Design Associates and Peter Schroeder Architects to design Wine Storage Bellevue.

Wine Storage Bellevue will be open seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. A dedicated elevator operated by key-card will service the climate and humidity-controlled storage area. Inside, the all-steel lockers are equipped with cylinder locks rather than the more commonly used padlocks to ensure that valuable wine collections remain secure. This increased accessibility and security, combined with its proximity to Downtown Bellevue and I-405, is something other local wine storage places are not able to offer.

In addition to overcoming the limitations of many wine storage facilities, the Gilroys included a featured amenity unlike any other in Pacific Northwest: a generously-appointed Wine Resource Center infused with Old World Tuscan charm.

The Wine Resource Center is characterized by ornate stonework, handsome leather furnishings, hand-carved doors and a dual-sided fireplace. Ideal for hosting wine club meetings and small, private tasting events, the 1,000 square foot space will provide many of the necessary accoutrements, as well as a computer with cellar-tracking software and internet access. The Wine Resource Center will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or later by appointment.

“Around the nation there are very few wine storage facilities of this caliber; it seemed that with wine country in our backyard that the market could definitely support it,” said Mr. Gilroy.
