BMW Northwest Sends TCGC MGI Winners and Club Pro
to BMW
Golf Cup in Pinehurst
Early October Tacoma Country and Golf Club Member Guest
Invitational winners, Chip Montague and Andy Karnath represented BMW Northwest
at the BMW Golf Cup International US Final, held at
the stunning Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina. Joining the winning pair on the
all expenses paid competition were TCGC’s own First Assistant Professional,
Mitch Runge, and BMW Northwest’s General Sales Manager, Allen Deen.
A Golf Lover’s Dream
The experience dazzled both on and off the course. Runge was
immediately charmed by the Southern hospitality at the resort’s Carolina Hotel
and Holly Inn, while Montague, a construction field coordinator hailing from
Sumner was impressed by the all around five-star treatment: “At almost every
turn it seemed like I heard, ‘BMW has got that for you.’” As for the golf
itself? Playing Pinehurst’s celebrated No. 2 course twice was a highlight for
Montague, while Runge enjoyed returning to the famed course calling it “the
best of what we have to offer in the US for championship golf.”
The Final Takeaway
The grand finale turned into a real nail biter, which saw
Runge up against Broadmoor Golf Club’s Head Pro, Tim Feenstra, who was ahead
for the entire round until Runge’s two birdies on the last four holes, followed
by a five-foot par putt on 18, positioned him to tie for first place. A
scorecard playoff ultimately crowned Feenstra the winner, but Runge remains
grateful for the opportunity that BMW Northwest made possible for him, noting:
“This trip is the highlight of my year.” Now that’s good sportsmanship!
50 Years of MGI and BMW Northwest 50th
Anniversary
This year is BMW Northwest’s 50th Anniversary and it’s
also 50 years of the TCGC MGI Tournament.
“It’s a great event and we like being a part of it.” commented BMW
Northwest owner Manfred Scharmach. “Thanks
to this year’s players and to Greg Hanson for the great work he did on the
tournament and a big congratulations to Montague, Karnath and Runge on their games.”
